New Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)

In April 2026, we are planning to introduce an Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).

This new Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) will allow us to send your prescription electronically to a pharmacy you choose to get your medication or appliances from.

This will make the prescribing and dispensing process more efficient and convenient for patients and staff. There will be less demand for people with repeat prescriptions to call the surgery just to collect a prescription form.

How does EPS work?
  • To receive prescriptions electronically, you will need to ‘nominate’ a pharmacy, dispensing appliance contractor, or our dispensary (if eligible). ‘Nominate’ means that you can choose a place for us to electronically send your prescription to.
  • You will continue to order your repeat prescription as you normally would, and then we will authorise the prescription and send it electronically to the pharmacy you have chosen.
  • The main difference is that your prescription will be sent electronically.
What are the benefits to EPS?
  • If you usually collect repeat prescriptions, you will not need to visit us for a paper prescription. We will be able to send it electronically to your nominated pharmacy or dispensing contractor, saving time and making the process more convenient. If you are eligible to be a dispensing patient you can still nominate elm tree surgery as your pharmacy.
  • Unlike paper prescriptions, electronic prescriptions cannot be lost.
  • If a prescription needs to be changed, your GP can cancel and issue a new one electronically, avoiding extra trips to the surgery.
  • You may not have to wait as long in the pharmacy, as your prescription will be sent electronically. This means your prescription may be ready before you arrive!
  • If you regularly care for someone else, you will  no longer need to make frequent trips to the surgery to collect a paper prescription. To set the nomination, you or the person you care for will need to contact us to add the desired nominated pharmacy.
  • You can easily change your nominated pharmacy. If you are on holiday in England and need a prescription, you can contact us to get your nominated pharmacy changed to a pharmacy near where you are staying.
Does EPS mean I will see my GP less often?
  • No- it just means that you may not have to contact us in order for you to collect a prescription.
What can I do if I am unhappy with this service?
